Lars Ulrich’s Sons Announces ‘First Taipei Houston Album Is Done’

Metallica drummer and founder Lars Ulrich‘s sons Layne and Myles Ulrich recently talked about why they decided to stay as a two-piece band and announced first Taipei Houston album is done.

Taipei Houston is a new band launched by the Ulrich Brothers, Myles and Layne Ulrich, who are the son of the Metallica co-founder Lars Ulrich. There is no doubt that their father, heavy metal legend Lars Ulrich, led them to expose their passion for music. Playing its first-ever show this past September at Alex’s Bar in California, the band has been active and creating new stuff for their fans since September 2021.

The drummer of the band, Myles Ulrich, spent time at Berklee College Of Music. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old bassist and singer Layne Ulrich studied at NYU. Being sons of a worldwide musician is clearly hard these days because of that stressful pressure, as James Hetfield’s son said previously that he was working to create his own legacy.

Taipei Houston‘s future plans are a little bit busy. On July 28, they will be playing at Lollapalooza 2022 while they were a part of Louder Than Life 2022 on September 22. On October 8, the two-piece band is going to play at Aftershock 2022. Their reportedly last show marks Austin City Limits Music Festival 2022, which will be held on October 14.

However, in a recent appearance on Concert Pipeline, Myles and Layne Ulrich have opened up about the idea of why Taipei Houston stays as a two-piece in their career. Layne Ulrich commented on the idea at first, recalling the time they realized that they needed vocals on their tracks.

“I was always really interested in singing,” he said. “I mean, my main thing [was] literally just singing along to the radio as a kid and just listening to stuff. And I always felt very into that but I’d never been a singer or anything like that.

“And then when we were first starting out with our project, we were always anticipating getting a singer, and then when we realized it was just gonna be the two of us, it was, like, ‘All right. Now we’ve gotta get this going, get some singing going.’

“So through kind of a long process, finding that, it was really cool.”

Myles Ulrich Announces First Taipei Houston Album Is Done

After his brother Layne, Myles chimed in and thrilled fans by announcing that the first Taipei Houston album is done. Although they are just a new band formed in September 2021, Taipei Houston shows off how they are creating its legacy slowly but surely. It is pretty exciting for them that they’ve finished recording the debut Taipei Houston album.

“We wrote the majority of an album which we’ve now finished, and we’re kind of figuring out how to play it all live because we just recorded all of it,” he added.

“And because we both play so much guitar and all the instruments, it was, like, ‘Why don’t we just scale it back and make it a crazy two-piece thing instead of trying to find more people that you jell with and that the vibe is right? Why don’t we just keep it simple and weird?'”

Layne then continued: “‘Cause also that way we can hit the ground running. You’ve gotta find people you like, you’ve gotta get them into the stuff, you’ve gotta teach them it. That way, literally, just coming straight from us having written all of it together, we can just hit the ground running like that.”

It was not the first time you heard Taipei Houston. As some of you might remember, Lars Ulrich had shared The Beatles’ cover of the musicians back in April 2020. At the time, the drummer told Rolling Stone that “this insane, three-minute Blue Cheer, crazy, garage-rock version of ‘Eleanor Rigby’.

“Obviously, there’s been some incredible versions of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ along the way, but I’m pretty sure there’s never been one that had this kind of sound, this kind of feel, this kind of energy and madness to it,” Lars added. “I was, like, ‘You know what, boys? You done me proud.’”
