Paul Stanley Disagrees With Gene Simmons On ‘Rock Is Dead’ Claims
KISS guitarist Paul Stanley has shown he disagrees with his friend Gene Simmons on his rock is dead claims.
Rock music is a genre of popular music that is characterized by its use of electric guitars, bass guitars, drums, and sometimes keyboards, as well as a strong emphasis on vocal melody and often highly amplified sound. It has had a significant impact on popular culture, and its influence can be seen in many other genres of music as well as in film, fashion, and art. There are too many names that influenced the early scene, including Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Little Richard, AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses.
Gene Simmons has been defending rock’s dead since the mid-2010s. He says as soon as people are available to download music or listen to it for free, new rock acts will never find a chance to introduce their music live much. Simmons also compared new rock artists’ chances to their early years. He said the old rock model is broken, adding, “they didn’t have a record company who put up posters around.”
In an interview with Louder, Paul Stanley shared his feelings on the current state of rock music. He touched on his rocker son’s band getting a higher crowd on their live shows. Stanley showed he disagreed with Gene Simmons in this way. According to him, his son’s playing in front of a big crowd is proof that the rock is not dead.
“It’s a great soundbite, but that’s about all it is,” Paul Stanley comments. “My son Evan is playing all around Los Angeles with a rock band that kicks ass and is getting great crowds, with beautiful models coming, and that’s proof to me that rock’s not dead.”
Paul Stanley adds that too many rock bands are creating quality music and trying to introduce it to more people. He then stated that the new rock acts would not be bigger like them because they would use sounds that already existed in the past.
“The music that is most popular to mainstream tastes changes over time, and it ebbs and flows,” he continues. “There’s a lot of rock music being made right now, and some of it may be too derivative to really stake a claim and take it to the next level, but it will happen, it will happen. But the next big rock band won’t be huge because it sounds like a band from the past, it will have its own voice.”
Stanley also talked heartwarmingly about Gene Simmons. He admits he admired him a lot because Simmons‘ putting his creative thoughts on KISS works has made the band better.
“Gene is a team player, and he loves the band, and wants what’s best for it, even if it’s not always what’s best for him,” Stanley says. “I love that Gene’s ability to put his own advantages and possibilities within the band by the side to do whatever is best for the collective. I admire that quality, because it’s you don’t find it that often in people.”
