Dave Navarro has revealed that NHC, his band with the late Taylor Hawkins and Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, has a finished album waiting to be released.

In September 2021, the supergroup made their debut with two singles, ‘Feed The Cruel’ and ‘Better Move On’. The trio released two more singles in November of that year, ‘Devil You Know’ and ‘Lazy Eye’, before releasing the ‘Intakes & Outtakes’ EP in February 2022.

Taylor Hawkins would unfortunately die the following month, leaving the fate of NHC up in the air. Now, Dave Navarro has revealed to Rolling Stone that the band recorded a full-length album prior to Hawkins’ death, and that the album has been “completed” and “mastered”.

Navarro said in his chat with Rolling Stone that though the album is done, he isn’t sure if it will be released anytime soon:

“We have a completed mastered album, but this might be a little soon [to release]. I don’t really know where that stands, but I’ll tell you that I really believe that it deserves to come out, because that record to me, really showcased what a brilliant all-around musician Taylor was, because he wrote most of the songs, played the drums and sang them.

He continued:

“His overall musicianship, I think, really deserves to be known and highlighted, so I really hope it sees the light of day. But yeah, that was one of the most happy experiences of my life making that record with him, and just obviously, I haven’t been able to listen to it since.”

This isn’t the first time Navarro has opened up about his struggles with music following Hawkins’ death. Late last month, he opened up about dealing with the passing of Hawkins – who was one of his good friends – and the toll it took on his mental health.

“I’d just completed making a record with Taylor Hawkins and Chris Chaney,” Navarro said. “We mixed and mastered it, and then we lost Taylor. That was in the middle of COVID, and it was actually very painful for me to pick up the guitar after that.”

He continued: “I didn’t pick up the guitar for about a year. He was such an inspiring artist — not only was he a phenomenal drummer, he was an amazing songwriter and lyricist… just one of those humans that everybody loved.

“After losing Taylor I didn’t play for a long time. Then, about a year into it, I picked up the guitar, started playing some cover songs, and just kind of got used to the instrument in my hand again.”

Navarro rejoined Jane’s Addiction earlier this year and made his live debut with the band at their London gig in May. The band also recently shared ‘Imminent Redemption’, their first new music in 34 years.

In other news, Jane’s Addiction have recently embarked on a North American headline tour, with support coming from Love & Rockets.
